SOIXANTE-NEUF FROMAGES FRANÇAIS
After adhering to the Covid catch phrase for the past few years of “stay home, stay safe”, Roger and I decided in 2022 to burst our protective bubble and venture overseas to Brisbane. Surprisingly we got Covid, lived to tell the tale, and with our c’est la vie attitude concluded that now was the time to head to France to eat cheese and celebrate Roger’s 70th. However, small problem, he was born in August and I don’t like the heat of European summers, so hence the trip's theme ’69 French Cheeses’.
The French do cheese particularly well with hundreds of types made from the milk of sheep, cows, buffalo, goats, etc. Over the next 69 days we hope to explore a large cheese producing region of France and share 69 of our cheese obsession experiences with you. For our vegan friends (not sure how that happened) don’t worry as along the way there will be the occasional, well every day, post of visits to beautiful gardens, old chateaus and churches, historical places of Napoleon, Crusaders, Romans, World Wars, the Way of St James and of course a bit of geocaching.
After reading Denis Tillinac’s book ‘France: An Illustrated Miscellany’ (yes it was a picture book) I have decided to set myself an extra challenge. I hope to capture the essence of France by taking a photo every other day of my hand-knitted Napoleon with something quintessentially French. For those expecting to see pictures of the Eiffel tower, champagne tours and bathers on the beaches of the Riviera, sorry to disappoint you but they are not on our itinerary.
Sit back and enjoy our travels, as we have sacrificed our health by obsessively devouring cheese in these Covid times so you don’t have to.
