Jeannine & Roger's French Cheese Odyssey

Carcassonne - 13th May

Another day another campaign. This time the good folk of Carcassonne are voicing their opinion about Covid vaccinations.
We went into Carcassonne to buy our daily bread and checked out the Saturday market, speciality shops and their 'Les Halles' which are a miniature version of Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market. Town was busy, even though it was drizzling, but you do as the following lady has done and carry your bag of shopping on your head. The closer we get to the south, the more we see the influence of France's colonial history in greater Africa.

Apart from market visits, recovering from our long journey yesterday and Roger planning how to get us to the Toulouse World Rugby Sevens with minimal modes of transport exchanges, the only other thing we did was a trip to the supermarket for a bigger shop. Which leads me to...
Essence of France Photo Challenge No.8 - Wine and Vineyards; Quite a bit of France is covered in vineyards and this region is no exception. Everywhere a vineyard, everywhere a Catholic church.. it is believed (or so I have read several times now) that the Catholic Monks shaped France’s wine culture.
I’m not a wine drinker but my driving companion thought he deserved a small wine for a good deed done yesterday at a Catholic Church in Montpellier, whereby he returned a dropped key to the man who opened the main doors for us. Wine of choice; not something cultured just a chateau cardboard from the cellars of E.Leclerc.

Cheese Experience No.22 - Cooking with Cheese; I’m happy I have my Reblochon now so that we can cook with it and eat is it as you would Camembert. Reblochon is a lot healthier than some of the cheeses we have bought as it only has 27% fat. Cheese fact; it is better to make a cheese sauce with expensive cheese because with cheaper cheese you need more of it to get flavour, and more cheese will make the sauce oily and likely to split.
