SOIXANTE-NEUF FROMAGES FRANÇAIS

Jeannine & Roger's French Cheese Odyssey

Villeurbanne - 28th June

Today we travelled to Villeurbanne, a city which borders Lyon, on the left side of the Rhône. We are staying in a new apartment that has lots of modern technology; for example you lock and unlock the doors with an app on your cellphone. There are QR codes around the house to scan for further information about how to work various gadgets. However the photo below is the air conditioning which looks like a cat-flap tube for skinny cats.
The high tech aircon broke so they just left the hole in the wall for ventilation.

Our journey today took us to:

  • Yssingeaux: Our morning tea and geocaching stop. The first photo shows where we sat in the middle of town to eat our pastries and the second photo is where we expended the energy gained from the pastries
  • Aurac Sur Loire: Another cache, another crusader town
  • Le Pochet: We stopped for a cache on the Loire River; a lovely spot for rowing and a riverside house
  • Firminy: Nice bakery right near a park, which was an opportune time to stop because after this town it was all big cities and fast moving traffic.

The main street of our neighbourhood has over 20 places to dine. If you discount the kebab, pizza and non-food places then you are down to one option, the Indian. Great food and service; the curry was chilli hot and the rice fragrant.

Cheese Experience No.68 - Cheese Naan I tore it apart before taking the picture to show that it was filled with a runny white cheese sauce and not lumps of paneer.

Essence of France Photo Challenge No.30: French Women They are portrayed as being elegant and chic, and supposedly never fat. That may be the fashion models of Paris but times have changed. The makeup of the female population of France includes a high percentage of North African, European and Middle-Eastern people. Obviously we can’t photograph people without their permission so below is a rough comparison of the difference in perception and reality.
