Karapiro to Picton - 16/01/12 - 20/01/12
We left home on the 16th leaving our house and cats in the capable hands of Sue and Steve. Hopefully after 3 months they would have cured Asilin of her 5.30am starts. We drove all of 20 minutes down the road and camped with the Westlake Boys Rowing Squad at Epworth. You don’t want to rush these big trips. [Editor’s note – What is it with schoolboys?]
Over the next few days we stopped at Taupo to visit Aunt Betty, Himatangi Beach for some unknown reason and Paraparaumu to visit Aunt Margaret.
On the 20th after an unexpectedly smooth Cook Strait crossing on the Straitsman we arrived in sunny Picton and parked up at Shelley Beach for some fishing. It didn’t take long to realize that catching fish is a pastime that should be left to the Asian tourists. It was quite distressing to see them fillet and cook the very small spotties.
