DAY 34 - Hong Kong (Day Three) 1/07/2005
There was a lot of Hong Kong to see so we booked another tour. This time we went for a harbour cruise on some colourful old boat full of American exchange students. The cruise takes you down the Kowloon side of the harbour to a noon day gun firing, then through the typhoon boat shelter and then back along the Hong Kong Island side. The boat commentary points out the contrast of living conditions, high rises, boats, temples and ramshackled houses.
After the cruise we did another round of the shops and couldn't find any electronic gadgets that were cheaper than home, so we used a free Internet and caught the airport shuttle.
We rode the airport shuttle bus with a couple from Tauranga who had been to England, Paris and the South of France. They saw nothing in Paris and sunbathed in France. They saw nothing in Hong Kong but shopped for two days. Each to their own I suppose.
The airport was busy and they wouldn't take pounds or NZ dollars, I had spent all the Hong Kong dollars so we had to book a NZ$11 snack on my credit card. That was the only time I got my card out.
The plane was again full of Asians and skinny air hostesses.
